Five houses in Kg Bertam Hulu on the brink of collapse due to landslide

MELAKA: A massive landslide along the banks of Sungai Udang puts five houses in Kampung Bertam Hulu on the brink of collapse.

The situation has also put several other homes in the village at risk as well as affecting part of the Sungai Udang-Paya Rumput-Ayer Keroh (SPA) Highway.

Sungai Udang constituency development and coordination committee (Japerun) spokesman Jameel Jabbar said they have arranged for relevant authorities to visit the area and expedite the remedial actions.

He said the landslide occurred about three days ago but the situation worsened after a downpour on Sunday (Sept 18).

“The soil in the area is deteriorating rapidly and edging close to the houses," he said in an interview.

Jameel also took The Star to the area where the soil erosion was less than 50m away from the houses.

Flash floods were meanwhile reported in Melaka Tengah, Jasin and Alor Gajah due to the heavy rain since 3am on Sunday.

Melaka Civil Defence Force said in Melaka Tengah, areas affected were Bukit Duyong, Permatang Duyong, Semabok, Solok Bukit Baru Duyong, Bukit Godek, Taman Sri Duyong, Pengkalan Rama Pantai and Bukit Bayan.

In Jasin, the locations are Kampung Kilang Berapi Utara, Kampung Merlimau Pasir, Kampung Merlimau Barat, Taman Seri Merlimau and Taman Merlimau Megah.

In Alor Gajah, the areas submerged in flood waters were Kampung Bukit Tambun and Kampung Bukit Balai.
